Railay is a peninsula near Ao Nang cut off by cliffs, so you can only get there by boat. It has Phra Nang Cave Beach, rock-climbing walls and one of the best sunsets in Krabi from Railay West.

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island, the starting point for day trips to Phi Phi, James Bond Island and the Similan Islands, with lively Patong and quieter beaches like Kata and Karon.

Best time to go: november to April is the dry season with calm seas. May to October is the monsoon: cheaper hotels, but some island trips are changed or cancelled because of waves.
