Racha Yai and Coral Island (Koh Hey) are the closest good snorkelling islands to Phuket, about 30-45 minutes by speedboat from Chalong. Racha Yai has the clear-water Patok and Siam bays, while Coral Island offers a beach with water sports.

Good to know: it usually takes full day (about 7-8 hours). The operator confirms the exact pickup or start time when you book.

A good choice for families and first-time snorkellers because the boat ride is short. Bring swimwear, a towel, reef-safe sunscreen, a hat and a waterproof bag for your phone. Seas can be rough from May to October, when the boat operator may change the route for safety.

Best time to go: november to April is the dry season with calm seas. May to October is the monsoon: cheaper hotels, but some island trips are changed or cancelled because of waves.
