Before you go
- Best time: November to April is the dry season with calm seas. May to October is the monsoon: cheaper hotels, but some island trips are changed or cancelled because of waves.
- Getting there: Phuket International Airport (HKT) has direct flights from several Indian cities and frequent flights from Bangkok (about 1 hour 20 minutes).
- Getting around: There is no metro; use Grab, taxis or a private car. Tour transfers include hotel pickup in most areas.
- Where to stay: Patong for nightlife and shopping, Kata and Karon for families, Kamala and Bang Tao for upscale resorts, Phuket Town for culture and food.
- Good to know: Book island trips for the first days of your stay so there is a spare day if the weather cancels a boat.
